Stuff for curious geeks
I made this site on a Mac Powerbook using the amazing Expression Engine. I pretty much code everything by hand inside Expression Engine but when not doing that, I use Pagespinner. I do my best to make my pages standards compliant in tasty xhtml and creamy css but there really are more important things aren't there?
In the weblog I use the World Weather and Gravatar plugins for Expression Engine. I use the iTuneswatcher applescript to fetch the CD artwork for my front page (not that easy to trackdown now.) I also use the sIFR technique to get those lovely Clarendon headlines in the weblog.
In the gallery, made using Expression Engine's gallery module, I use a number of javascripts, not all of which I may be retaining. It all depends on user feedback. At the moment, I'm reasonably happy with them all. All of the scripts are slightly modified so if you want to use them, I suggest you go to the source to get them rather than using what I have here. I use Youngpup's Slideout Menus, the fade-in script comes from Clagnut and I also use the afore-mentioned sIFR with the Han's Hand handwriting font from Polenimschaufenster. Name sounds like a sausage. I like sausages, and I like their fonts.
All of the photos are taken with either an aging Sony Cybershot DSC-F505v or a more modern Cybershot DSC-P93A. I take a lot of care with my photos, giving great thought to composition, aperture, shutter speed, exposure - all of that stuff. Then i get them home, load them into my Powerbook and Photoshop the crap out of them. The photos are all taken by myself unless otherwised specified, or unless I think i can get away with it.
My influences for this site are too numerous to mention (pillage, plunder) but I have to credit Jeffrey Zeldman with providing me with the initial inspiration, many years ago, to enjoy all that the web has to offer.
